After crossing from sculpture into ceramics, I wanted to focus on surface treatment. In comparison to sculpture, the building method to get to a finished piece is very different. I experimented with texture and layering to replicate wood textures by building up and distressing the clay and adding color to the works using glaze, stains, and acrylic paint in efforts to capture the spontaneous nature of decomposition. Experimenting with glaze application led me into the methodical application of tinted slip to generate the indigenous-inspired decoration on my bowl series.
